What’s Happening in The Schey: Week of February 23

Welcome back to our Monday Night Meeting! Last week was our career fair, and lots of our candidates walked away with interviews, internship offers and even full time placement in a company! As always, we’re proud of our candidates, and here’s What’s Going on in The Schey…

Ohio Sales Cup Updates

On Friday and Saturday, February 21 and 22, 13 people competed in our Ohio Sales Cup. Huge congratulations to everyone who completed, with the top four as follows:

4th Place: Cassey Eck

3rd Place: Brittany Somerville

2nd Place: Scott Brendamour

1st Place: Andy Black

Housekeeping

If you RSVP, you need to attend!

Interviews:

Apparel Etiquette:
Casual – anything, literally. Just get out of bed and be there
Business Casual – completely dressed up, but a blazer is not needed
Business Professional – full, single color suit. Dressed up from head to toe

American Red Cross Blood Drive

Blood-Drive-2Lori from Red Cross came to speak with us about the urgent need for blood at this time. Here are some quick and alarming facts that you may not know about blood donations and Athens County:

  • Athen County is a part of the central Ohio blood region made up of 42 hospitals
  • 5% currently donating for everyone else
  • 12 thousand units of blood because of cancellations since the beginning of 2015
  • KEEP YOUR RSVP! Your donation is more important than you could ever imagine! If you have not yet signed up to give blood, please sign up on the Google doc

Race for a Reason

The OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital Race for a Reason has been around for five years and has grown rapidly. It is structured for everyone to be able to donate to an organization they are passionate about. As members of the Schey, the money we raise will be going to the organization A Kid Again. We have a goal to raise $3,000 in the name of the Schey.

Internship Opportunities

Parker: looking for a junior to fulfill a true sales internship position

iSqFt: looking for three more summer interns

Lifelong Learning: From Classroom to Intern

The Do’s:

  • Greet Everyone – and continue to do so daily
  • Ask Questions – ignorance isn’t stupidity
  • Introduce Yourself to Everyone – power is not apparent to the naked eye
  • Keep Busy – come up with a list of two things you would like to accomplish next and get them done instead of going on social media
  • Sign up for Everything – softball, picnics, philanthropy projects

The Dont’s:

  • Bring Your Weekend in with you Monday – they get it, you’re young and you go out
  • Dress down on Fridays – if your boss doesn’t, you don’t
  • Play Mom vs. Dad – if you’re told to do something, do it. Don’t search for someone else to tell you not to do it
  • Think you Aren’t Presenting just Because You’re not Speaking – no cell phones in meetings
  • Gossip/Over-Share – people may laugh, but it shows you’re not ready for leadership

Consistency is Key – Summer seems short, but it’s 90 days. Treat it as a marathon, not a sprint. You don’t want to start strong, only to fade away. Nor do you want to be scrambling to undo a bad first impression.
