What’s Happening in The Schey: Week of April 20

Boy, have the last 15 weeks been exciting for The Schey! Our candidates have been working hard this semester, and it has definitely paid off. With the end of the semester approaching, we thought it best to take the time to highlight some projects we have undertaken—as well as share information about the great connections we are making with both individuals and businesses.

A Kid Again

Right now, The Schey is in the process of raising at least $3,000 to contribute to A Kid Again.  Striving to give hope, happiness, and healing to families with children afflicted with life threatening illnesses, A Kid Again is an organization that is dear to our heart and held in the highest esteem at The Schey.  Therefore, our candidates are working tirelessly to reach this goal!

One fundraising opportunity has been made possible thanks to a partnership between OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital and the Ohio University Sports Administration Program to put on the event “Race for a Reason.” This event consists of three different races from which participants may choose:  a 3k walk, a 5k run, or a mud run.  Registration is available online for the low cost of  $20.

If you’d like to make a donation to a Kid Again, please visit The Ralph and Luci Schey Sales Centre.  All donations help touch the lives of families with children fighting life threatening diseases.

Recruiting For Teams in The Schey

Inside Sales Team

Co-directors of Inside Sales, Kelly Danaher and Nathan Kahn, are looking to form the first-ever Inside Sales Team. Interview sign-ups will be Tuesday at 5:00 PM, with interviews slated for Wednesday and Thursday. Danaher and Kahn plan to recruit a talented sales team that will help establish 20 new corporate partners.

Recruitment Team

Jack Melick and Samantha Monachino, co-directors of Diversity and Recruitment, are organizing a recruitment team in order to target a more diverse audience. They want to assign specific people to act as liaisons.  Within this role, the team will encourage people within their majors to join The Schey.  Not only will this bolster membership, but it will educate students from various colleges about the benefits of obtaining a sales certificate.  Likewise, they will also do tabling within their own major college along with other recruitment efforts.

Corporate Partner Visits

RevLocal — Sending out a HUGE thank you to RevLocal for welcoming us to their workplace! RevLocal gave Schey candidates a tour and allowed us to participate in job shadowing. In addition, RevLocal conducted interviews at the end of the day, culminating in an internship offer for our Vice President of Communications, Erica Ytterbo. Congratulations, Erica!

SpyGlass —  Thank you to SpyGlass for an exciting and insightful visit. On this visit, a group of our candidates were privileged enough to tour the new corporate headquarters, speak with CEOs, and learn about the wide variety of  programs SpyGlass has to offer.

National Collegiate Sales Competition

Key takeaways from the NCSC, as shared by two of The Schey’s star seniors:

Scott Brendamour:

  • “Best experience in college!”
  • “So many interview opportunities by the end of one day…”

Andy Black:

  • “I gained so much real sales experience!”
  • “There was an immense amount of companies, interviews, and even job offers by the end of the event.”

Judging from their comments, we hope to have more candidates try to participate in this Sales Competition next year.

Farewell to Seniors & Dr. Axinn

As the end of the semester approaches, we have to send-off our excellent seniors and bid farewell to the retiring Dr. Axinn, who has been influential within The Schey Sales Centre. New chairs, Stephenson Swan and Greg Scott, ended tonight’s meeting by thanking Laurel Monroe, the previous chair, and Zachary Ernstoff, the previous Vice Chair. Immediately following, The Schey expressed their gratitude to Dr. Axinn with a short thank you speech and a small bundle of gifts.

All those moving on have left their mark on The Schey and we wish them the best of luck! Graduates’ contact information was recorded so we can all keep in touch. It’s not a goodbye but a see you later!
